When it comes to a symbol of western society, I don’t think you can find one that’s any better then the shopping cart. They are objects of metal or plastic, used quite regularly in most of our daily lives, but often times are UN-noticed.
With all based around mass consumption, the shopping cart is pivotal in 2 ways. Physically (with out them, gathering all that STUFF to buy and consume would be a whole lot more difficult) and symbolically.
